QUIKSILVER
Since 1994 the boat charter operators who are members of the WBC have provided our industry with safe and reliable access to some of the best waves in the world.
This unique access and logistical support has enabled our athletes and photographers to create movies and marketing material which have been broadcast via print, DVD and TV shows worldwide.
While our products and brand have been marketed in this manner, the Mentawai Islands have also been presented in this positive imagery along side Hawaii and Tahiti.
The Quiksilver Foundation has made substantial donations directly and through Surfaid to assist the people of the islands off West Sumatra after the Tsunami, recent earthquakes and most recently with a health clinic in Katiet Sipura.
Our Company fully supports the efforts of the WBC to find a fair and reasonable solution to the present licensing issues so we can continue our enjoyment and promotion of surfing in the Mentawais.

RUSTY
My name is Rusty Preisendorfer. I am the founder of a major surf brand known as " Rusty ". I have been traveling to the Mentawais since 1999.
I would have never considered staying in a land based camp but the opportunity came up to join in on a boat trip. Since my first visit, I have returned every year with my own charter groups aboard boats that are within the WBC.
From a personal standpoint, exploring the Mentawais by boat in search of perfect, uncrowded, waves has been an incredible experience. It is an experience that I passionately share with as many people as I can.
From a business perspective, several times a year, my company sends professional surfers to the Mentawais. We use photos and video footage of the trips to tell the story of every surfers dream: surfing uncrowded perfect waves. These images are run in magazines around the world and on the internet. The images are used in feature editorial articles along with advertising. These images reach and touch millions of surfers.
Having a good experience is a positive catalyst that stimulates the desire to reciprocate or try and give back in some way. The surfers in my charter groups, the professional athletes that my company employs, and other people that work in our industry feel compelled to give back in some way. We have industry fundraisers and also directly donate to various aid groups in an effort to help the people of the Mentawais.
The boat experience gives a broader experience and ultimately allows surfers to see more of the entire inland chain. I believe this leads to more of a big picture viewpoint and is a more compelling incentive to see the Mentawais as a group of islands rather than a particular destination.
I fully support the efforts of the WBC to find a amicable and intelligent solution to the current licensing Issues.
One final observation: as the people of Sumatra are painfully aware of, natural events supersede man made borders and powers beyond our control always have the final say. The ocean, its energy, and the waves that are created by these natural forces are always in transition.
